CAN Seminar (Controller Area Network)

Two Day Seminar for Developers and Decision-makers

Due to its special performance features and low-cost implementation, CAN is ideally suited to the networking of intelligent components in a large number of industrial and automotive applications. Today CAN is the dominant communication standard in automobiles and automotive systems of all kinds, as well as in embedded systems.

Target Group and Objectives
With the seminar, the participants receive a quick, efficient introduction to the CAN technology. The seminar is particularly intended for developers and system designers who have to implement their own developments based on CAN and want to acquire foundational knowledge of CAN technology. The CAN seminar is also recommended as a basis for our CANopen and DeviceNet seminars.

Seminar times
1. Day: 9:00 - 17:30
2. Day: 8:30 - 16:00

Topics

1. Introduction:

Important basics and terms of data communication

2. Data Transmission Layer:

Features of CAN; Principle of bus arbitration; Message formats; Bit stuffing; Principle of error signaling; Error detection mechanisms; Error detection capability; Troubleshooting mechanisms; CAN specification 2.0A (standard) and 2.0B (extended CAN protocol); Time Triggered CAN protocol (TTCAN)

3. Physical Layer:

Physical signal display and signal coding; Bit timing and bit synchronization; Connection between data rate and bus length; The most important standards: bus coupling and available transceiver modules; Extended topologies; Infrastructure components: repeaters, bridges, star couplers; Measures for improving EMC
