Evaluation kit for the IEEE 1588 Software
for PowerPC 405EZ
In co-operation with AMCC, IXXAT offers an adapted version of its IEEE 1588 protocol software  for the Acadia board (PowerPC 405EZ Evaluation Kit). The software is included as object code in the scope of supply of the starter kit and thus enables a quick and easy introduction to the IEEE 1588 technology.
The PPC405EZ is the first AMCC processor to implement hardware support for the IEEE1588 protocol. Both time stamping and implementation of an adjustable real-time clock in hardware enable a synchronization accuracy in the sub-nanosecond range. In the endurance test (12 hours), the platform reached a synchronization accuracy of +/- 80 nanoseconds maximum deviation back-to-back with a synchronization interval of one second and a standard deviation of 18 nanoseconds.
The IEEE1588 stack from IXXAT is synchronized in an average of approx. 30 synchronization intervals (i.e. 30 seconds).

Over the complete test period a synchronization accuracy of +/- 80 nanoseconds was maintained.

The IXXAT IEEE1588 stack offers a large number of configuration possibilities. The stack has a management API, via which a management device can be implemented. Configuration for a boundary clock with any number of Ethernet interfaces is also possible.
To enable our customers a fast introduction, the Acadia evaluation kit includes a fully implemented and functional version of our stack for test purposes. The runtime is limited to 4 hours, then the stack must be restarted. The stack is located in the file system /mnt/jffs2/ixxat. There you will also find a quick-start guide.
The Acadia board comes with a comprehensive software package and has a large number of interfaces for evaluation of the PPC405EZ processor and development of your own applications, even before installation of your own hardware.
The Acadia evaluation board included in the scope of supply as well as the industrial standard Linux operating system and U-Boot firmware are optimised, good value components specially developed for evaluation. Circuit diagrams and layout files are also included in the package to enable a safe start on a tested basis.
