Profinet Product Overview

Profinet is an innovative and open standard for industrial Ethernet in automation applications. The Profinet standard was defined and published by the PI (PROFIBUS & Profinet International).

Profinet is intended for process automation, factory automation and real-time motion control solutions. Profinet enables the integration of existing fieldbus systems, like PROFIBUS, Interbus, DeviceNet and other technologies in an open Ethernet based network.

Profinet uses the Ethernet standard and the TCP, UDP and IP protocols for communication, configuration and diagnosis or the network.

Protocol Software

Profinet IO Developer´s Kit

The Profinet IO Developer's Kit is a software package allowing the fast and easy implementation of the Profinet protocol into customer devices. This package is already optimized for the NetSilicon® NS9360 Development Kit and can be operated directly on this system with the demo application. The porting of the Profinet IO Developer's Kit to other targets is also possible. Therefore, a suitable operating system and a TCP/IP protocol stack have to be provided on the target system.

Module

Profinet IO Device Module

The Profinet IO Device Module is a very flexible and powerful solution for implementing the Profinet IO Device functionality into customer devices, like drives, I/O modules or encoders. The module supports the performance class Real Time (RT). For attachment to the host CPU a serial interface and a shared memory interface are available. The memory, necessary for the data exchange, is integrated on the Profinet IO Device Module.

Services

Code Introduction

IXXAT offers a one or two day training on the source code of the Profinet protocol stack. There, the interfaces, processes and data flows within the Profinet stack are explained in detail. The training gives the possibility to answer questions regarding the customer implementation and to make directly adaptations of the code.

Technical Consultation and Development Services

We support the customer at the specification of their Profinet devices or systems. The customer can benefit from the comprehensive Profinet know-how of IXXAT, which results in reduced development times. Furthermore, IXXAT can perform the adaptation and implementation as well as the test of the Profinet software in combination with the customer hardware and application.
